A Day in Sesame Place with a Toddler

Yesterday Brooks and I had a special day together. My mom stayed home with Graham and Brooks and I set off to spend the day at Sesame Place. I have a friend who lives right by it and she has a season pass – in August apparently season pass holders can get friends and family tickets for $10 during the week! Woah! Usually tickets are in the $65 range, so a $10 ticket was an amazing deal! I was excited to spend the day with Brookss

He was excited too. But after we made the plans I realized he doesn’t really watch Sesame Street. We usually have PBS on for tv shows and he only really knows Elmo. When we were on the way there I was thinking I should have had Sesame Street on for the past month so he would be more into the characters, but really I don’t think it would have mattered.

The first thing we did after we met up with our friends was the biggest water slide! It was huge with a raft that seemed like it would fit 10 people. The littles were given life jackets and I held on tight! It was really fun to be able to go on a big ride with Brooks. Another favorite water attraction was the mini wave pool – it was so cute and Brooks loved it!

I didn’t realize how much of a waterpark Sesame Place actually is. We brought all our water stuff, but I thought it was more of a park with rides than a water park – it was a really fun to be able to put my feet in the water and only have to worry about one little for the day!

Brooks enjoyed the special time together too!

After spending the morning in the water park area, we took a break for lunch and the headed to see a character show. This was Brooks’ first time seeing any characters in real life, so I was excited to see how he would handle it.

love

The show was really cute – lots of singing and dancing and all the Sesame Street characters were all in one place!

THIS was Brooks’ face when Elmo first walked on stage.

Priceless.

woah

He was into the characters and the show, but also slightly terrified at the same time. He held onto me for dear life, but at the same time was clapping along! Ha.

After the show it was time to ride some rides! It was busier than I expected it to be that day, but not so bad. We did have to wait in line, but Brooks waited happily. I was impressed.

Like I said, there weren’t too many rides, but what was there was perfect for Brooks’ age and he loved them all!

After riding some rides we decided to check out the Street Parade with a little Dippin’ Dots action. It was Brooks’ first DD experience. He obviously loved it.
dippin

The parade was crowded and pretty short {15 min} after that Brooks was pretty much spent and so was I so we packed up and headed home. Brooks usually takes a 2-3 hour nape everyday around 1 but on some days we skip it. Today was one of those days – he passed out on the 30 minute drive on the way home and we put him to bed a little earlier than normal. Everyone wins.

parade

We had a lovely day at Sesame Place. I love that it’s so close and can’t wait to go back again next year {with $10 tickets again hopefully} with Graham too!
yay

DogFish Head Brewery Tour

So last week when we were staying at my parents house in Delaware we decided to take a little day trip. I thought it would be fun to do something that the hubs would really enjoy and the first thing that came to mind- DogFish!

DogFish Head is a brewery that is local in Delaware and has many beers that Charles loves. We hadn’t been to the restaurant in Rehoboth in years BUT I knew the brewery tour was on his list of things he’d like to do as well. So we decided to check that out. My parents have had a house in Delaware for 11 + years and they had never been to the brewery either, so they were pumped to check it out too.

The brewery itself is gorgeous and massive. I’ve been to a bunch of breweries in my day, it’s something we love to check out when we are traveling to new spots – it’s always enjoyable to check out the local brews! DogFish was the biggest and nicest one we’ve been to yet!

bottler

So you get there and you need a ticket for the tour – It’s free – but the ticket is your key to free beer

ticket

The tours run about an hour 1.15 or so – and they start about every 45 minutes. We had just missed one but it worked out because we were able to try out some beers and have something to eat while we waited. On the back of your ticket you write out what 4 beers you want to try and they bring them to you – free tastings! Love it!

Cheers!

They don’t have a restaurant on site but they do have an amazing food truck which served some amazing pulled pork. I’m salivating writing about this it was so good. I want another one right now please.

And grilled cheese for the littles!

Another beer to wash it down! And then it was time for the tour to start!

dogfish

You have to wear closed toe shoes and safety goggles on the tour. I wore Graham because strollers aren’t allowed either.

goggles

Graham was a fan of pulling my glasses off – the entire tour

Also, since the tour is rather long, they suggest going to the bathroom before it starts as well. Especially after all the beer tasting. I enjoyed the bathroom signs. Ha!

Cutest little in safety goggles ever.

Our first stop in the tour was the brand new part of the brewery – it was hot in there but we got to see the process of the brewery going on as we were right there

popshopsbuds

We got to see the Engine Room, heard about the history, the family that started it all and see the process from start to bottling and packaging everything up. It was really cool and the guides did an amazing job.

Brooks surprisingly found the whole thing super interesting – he was into it the whole time. Graham on the other hand enjoyed hearing his echo and like randomly screaming from time to time during the tour. Ha.

echoson

That’s a lot of beer.

Like I said, it was really hot when we went and eventually Graham wanted out of the carrier to breathe a bit. And it was about the same timing which Brooks wanted a little break from all that walking. So we did a little switch.

parents

Brooks was easy to wear and fun because I hadn’t done it forever. He loved the new viewpoint as well.

After the tour it was time to sit down for a minute to relax and have another beer!

There was also this cool selfie station where you could take group photos and email them to yourself. Such a nice little treat – we had some fun with that!

Toddler Travel Favorites

We’ve been up and down and back again all summer long. We’ve spent weeks at beaches in New Jersey, Delaware and have been all over the place this season. It’s been a blast, but I have to say I’M DONE. I’m all travelled out and I’m excited to just stay put for a little bit this Fall – and for the weather to cool down a bit please!

That being said, I think I’ve become a bit of an expert in terms of what to bring in the car to entertain a toddler. Brooks is 2.5 years old and pretty good when it comes to traveling in the car. We don’t use the car too much during the week when we are at home in the city, so the car is a bit of a treat for him, which I love. He always asks to go for a “car ride” – so cute!

The only issue is when we get in the car and I’m trying to have Graham take a nap and Brooks wants to talk and sing and do all things loud and noisy. So I’ve been picking up a few things here and there to keep him entertained {and quiet} in the car – check out my favorites and feel free to share yours!

Toddler Travel Favorites

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven / eight / nine

one – Obsessed with these Water Wow Books. You just need a little water for the built in brush, or you can use any brush. The little paints the page and all the colors appear. Best part about it – it drys shortly and the little can do it all over again! Love this, comes in a bunch of varieties!

two – I always have our Kindle Fire with me and changed. I don’t usually give it to Brooks unless Graham is sleeping and I need him to be quiet, but it’s a lifesaver when you really need it. Plus I love it comes loaded with all these games you don’t need wifi for. Amazing.

three – These headphones are necessary with the Fire. They are inexpensive and go perfectly with the tablet case. Again, when you need silence. Ha.

four – How cute is this backpack? I love it’s size and the cute patterns. Great to pack up all things toddler in one little space to keep everything sort of together.

five – What goes with road trip? ALL. THE. SNACKS. Again, another cute find with this amazing lunchbox – keeping everything together is half the battle!

six – Do yourself a favor and DON’T BUY this CD. Ok, buy it – your kids will love it. But you will HATE IT. It’s pretty annoying but seriously, the kids LOVE IT. And anything is better than screaming!

seven – This is a fun little game that Brooks enjoys, easy to play in the car, all the parts are contained and goes along with the whole steering a car thing. Easy peasy!

eight – ok, this is a fun toy but depending on your childs age, might not be the best in the car because #allthepieces BUT it’s still a really cute travel toy to bring along on the go. Easy to create and have a little fun with and great to store in the box!

nine – Just like the Water Wow books, the Color Blast is awesome because you use one marker and all the colors come out in the pages! I see ones like these in the Target Dollar Spot and I stock up. So amazing for the car – love these!

Superfood Ice Cubes

“This post is part of the #GenesisTodaySuperfoods campaign, in which I am a compensated blogger ambassador. All opinions are my own and based on my own experiences.

USA

// USA shirt  / Eternity necklace

Have you been watching the Olympics lately? I’ve been watching every day, obsessed – they are so much fun to watch and all the athletes are so inspiring.

Inspiring enough to keep me on my 30 day Juice FocusCRAZY

I’ve been having my green juices + smoothies every day for the past 18 days and I’ve been feeling pretty good. It’s definitely been a big factor in me making healthy choices in the morning and afternoon. Juice/Smoothie for breakfast and I’ve been enjoying having some of the protein powder mixed with almond milk for a little snack when I do need to take the hunger edge off.

PROTEIN

My new obsession is freezing the liquid superfoods into ice cubes! How amazing is that?

Shown here: Acai, Goji, Mangosteen + Noni {in that order}

ICE SUPER

It’s been so easy to freeze them in a ice cube tray and then easily add them to any juice, smoothie or pretty much anything I’ve been drinking lately!

ICE CUBES

A few of my favorite combinations include: My Green Monster Update with all 4 superfood ice ubes mixed in. This made the smoothie pretty thick, but it was a good one!

ICE SMOOTHIE PINK STRAW

I also enjoy a good Arnold Palmer – 1/2 lemonade 1/2 iced tea – been brewing my own tea at home and adding in a mix of regular ice + Acai OR Goji ice cubes for an added kick. It’s been a nice little refreshing summer treat and as the ice melts the flavors combine even more.

ICE TEA

Aside from feeling better I can really feel the difference in my hair, skin and nails from making this dietary change almost 3 weeks ago. My hair has definitely grown and it just feels better. It’s been so hot out so most of the time I’ve got a mom bun going on, but the other day I blow dried my hair for the first time and I was pretty excited about it!

HAIR DOWN

It’s fun to really see how much changing up your diet even a little bit can have such a positive effect on everything else! A little tan doesn’t hurt either but still!
